As a church that reaches up to God and out into the community, we have active witness and outreach ministries.Our outreach ministries reflect the fact that we are a cross-shaped church; that is, a church that reaches up to God and out into community.

OUTREACH MINISTRIES

Higher Ed/Campus

The Higher Education ministry serves as a vehicle for those inside and outside of the church community to help students of all ages pursue their goal of a college education. This ministry provides individuals and families with opportunities to explore various college options by a variety of methods including, college preparation seminars, college information sessions, college fairs, and individual academic counseling sessions. Each year the Higher Education ministry sponsors a college tour.

 

Academic Skills Reinforcement

Provides support to students in the area of tutoring, special testing and preparation in standardized tests such as SAT, ACT, TASS, etc

 

Scholarship Ministry

To assist graduating high school students with tuition and textbook expenditures, in order to pursue higher education.

 

Social Services:

          Recovery Ministry

The Recovery Ministry seeks to work with individuals who are seeking drug and alcohol treatment programs. We believe that Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit empower us to care for those struggling with addictions. The ministry is committed to allowing the power of God’s grace to under gird our desire to share and provide support for those on the sobriety journey.

          AIDS Ministry

The AIDS Ministry works in collaboration with the AIDS Interfaith Network. The volunteers are responsible for supporting AIDS patients through prayer, friendship, hands-on-help, and spiritual sharing.

 

Homeless Ministry
---------------------------
We believe that Gospel calls us to demonstrate visible concern and care for the least of these. We believe that homeless are clearly included amongst the least of these. We minister to the homeless by providing food, clothing, and other assistance as needed.



Health & Welfare Ministries
---------------------------------------
We believe that God cares about bodies and our health; more specifically, we believe that God desires us to take care of our bodies and our health. Thus, the Health and Welfare ministry provides preventive health education seminars that are open to both church members and members of the broader community. The ministry is also staffed and equipped to provide emergency medical services (should the need arise).


Loaves & Fishes Ministry

Serves the homeless and hungry via monthly meals and the provision of special holiday gifts and meals. Meals are served every fourth Saturday at the Martin Luther King, Jr., Community Center, located in South Dallas.

 

BMCR-Black Methodists for Church Renewal

The mission of Black Methodists for Church Renewal is to raise up prophetic and spiritual leaders who will be advocate for the unique needs of Black people in the United Methodist church.

 

Mission Ministry-


Jail Ministry-

Provides spiritual support services for individuals who are incarcerated in the Texas criminal justice system. Visits inmates on the first Sundays of every month. The Jail Ministry also implements and supervises the Angel Tree Program to address the needs of children whose parents are incarcerated.


Political –Social Action Ministry(P-SAM)

The Political-Social Action Ministry (P-SAM) accepts the responsibility to inform, engage, motivate, and mobilize the St. Luke family and wider community in the ways of justice; keeping the words of the Lord as given to the prophet Micah as our guide…to do justice, to love mercy and to walk humbly with our God.

 

Sankofa African Heritage Ministry

The Sankofa African Heritage Ministry exists to help St. Luke live out its core value of celebrating our heritage.  Sankofa, a word in the Akan language of Ghana, West Africa teaches us that we must go back to our roots in order to move forward.  As African people, our heritage extends back to the very beginning of time. The Sankofa African Heritage Ministry is responsible for presenting the Zan W. Holmes, Jr. African Heritage Lecture Series along with our annual Kwanzaa Celebration.

S.L.A.M. Ministries ( St. Luke Athletic Ministry)

Promotes athletic involvement and physical fitness throughout the St. Luke church body. The ministry seeks to find opportunities to involve all groups within the church (men, women, boys, and girls). We also seek to encourage our members to focus on their physical fitness as well as their spiritual fitness.

Swing N2 Fitness Ministry-

Mission Statement: To Share Christ blessings through Fitness, Fellowship and Service to those in need.

Vision Statement:  To Continue to grown & reach out to the greater community by providing our services while expressingthe importance to physical fitness.

Swing N2 Fitness class was develop through and from our Annual Church Outing in 2008. All proceeds from the class benefit the Breadbasket Ministry. Class is open to the church and community. Those attending are asked to bring donations for the Breadbasket Ministry in a the form of canned goods or small monetary donation.  Swing Out Dance Classes Held each Monday 6:30 p.m.- 8:45 p.m. Classes held in the D.B.Holmes Fellowship Hall.

 

AGAPE- Breadbasket Ministry

The Breadbasket Ministry is grounded in the divine commandment to share our resources with those in need. Accordingly, this ministry provides food to those in such need.


United Methodist Men -

The United Methodist Men's Ministry is called to establish, maintain and nurture a personal relationship with God through our perpetual crusade to grow spiritually and to daily seek God's will. As a creative and supportive fellowship of men who seek to know Jesus Christ, we are called to be a community of God's caring people, within the church and world community, by serving as faithful stewards of our time, talents and money; by combating injustice wherever it may exist and by implementing outreach ministries to meet the needs of the total community.
